My place.My words.My world.

I can feel it in the air…

…it’s exam time again

God, I don’t even go to school anymore and still I get a shiver even thinking about it… I hate school and everything that goes along with it. Worst thing of it all is that I’m qualified as a teacher, so technically I could be in the school system for the rest of my life. Would that suck..

I once thought that if you’re on the other side (i.c. being the teacher), it’s more fun. Alas, it isn’t. At least for me. I see other people enjoy it with all of their heart (well most of the time..), and I respect and admire them for it. ‘Cause if you really want to be a teacher, it’s one of the most beautiful jobs their is. And that’s not just for all of the holidays you get, ’cause as I’ve experienced, they are seriously overrated. I wish it was my dream job, but it’s more like a hell of a job for me. I like kids very much. In their free time that is. Not if I have to tell them what to do, ’cause most of them can’t be bothered with anything more than what their weekends will look like. Maybe I’m too young myself, but I’m not having a lot of fun telling them what to do all the time. I once heard an older friend of mine say that every year on the first of September (that’s the first day of school around here), he makes a little jump, just because of the face he doesn’t have to go to school anymore. I can only second to that.

Don’t get me wrong though. I’m glad I’ve got a degree and I do think that it’s important to have one. I know lot’s of people do get great carees without it, but many also don’t. And if not for getting a better job, it’s good for your self-esteem. But why does it matter that much for your self-esteem? Because society says so. Most of the time it goes like this: the higher your degree, the higher you’re on the social ladder. (Except if you’re royality/celebrity/sports(wo)man ofcourse, than you’re excused of any degree.) It’s a shame that people are so often categorized like this. There’s more than one moment in time I cursed myself for not having a higher degree. And that’s in the first place because I know you’re often judged by the kind of job you do. Many people respect a doctor or lawyer more than they respect a shop assistent or a plumber. Until they’ve got a leak that is. Wonder who they’ll call then. I can only hope that time will change this behaviour, but looking at the world now, I think we’re in for a long ride.

Worst thing of it all is that I actually really like learning new stuff. I’m a real bookwurm, and not just for chicklit and magazines. I enjoy a nice Coetzee (nobelprize winner) just as much as the much discussed and ridiculed Twilight. I’m constantly trying out new computer programmes, I bought a book about the divine section and Fibonacci (math) and I’m refreshing my languages on a regular basis. I’ve just had it with the whole school system. Being obligated to do this, due on that date and so on and on. I know lots of kids feel like that these days, and they start feeling like that even as early on as primary school. I’m not going to discuss all the possible reasons for this as there are way too many from the parents to the teacher to the governments’ way of handling certain things. However, teachers should start working on this problem, and I’m sure a good teacher might be able to change this situation (for his/her class at least). Problem is it takes someone with very good classmanagement, and these persons are thinning out as teaching gets harder every year due to the changing mentality in pupils. In my opinion, one of the better ways to tackle this problem, is putting kids in method schools like Freneit. I’ve tought in a Freneit school, and for me there’s a noticable difference with pupils in regular schools. I could keep on talking about this school system and all its advantages, but you can look them up for yourself, there’s enoug to find on the internet. Anyway, these pupils are a lot more independable and they show way more respect for the teacher. Well at least the onces I met did…

Ha, so I started of saying I’m glad I escaped the whole school world, but seems I still have a secret passion for it as well…

No clue what I’m talking about?

You’ll probably not be the only one. Neither was I until a few minutes ago.
So let me explain.
“Female, 30 years old, in search of male 20 years old”
Makes more sense like this, doesn’t it?

So here I am talking personal ads talk, just to have a nice introduction to the topic I wanted to get to. Woman with younger guys or as so often ridiculed ‘toyboys’. I get an instant burst of defensiveness whenever I hear someone criticising them, as they wouldn’t say a word if it’s a men with a younger woman. Why is that? In the newspaper today, I saw a piece about a female Belgian singer of 31, who married her boyfriend of 23. The whole age thing seemed to be quiete important as it got mentioned a few times in the article. If it had been a male singer and his girlfriend, do you think they would have even mentioned the age gap? Last year, it came out in the National press that a Belgian actress of 42 was together with her 23 year old co-star. The guy who played her son. You can imagine how that got smeard out. Not necesarry in a bad way, but not in a good one either. By now they’ve got a baby together and are happy as hell.

Why do people care so much about this? Why do they all find it so strange? I know the female/male age gap, the female being the oldest, is still not widely common, but still… I’m not going to depict all psychological bullshit why a woman would choose a younger man. ‘Cause let’s face it, there’s just as much crap going around as why they pick older ones. Call me open minded, and I guess indeed I am, but in my opinion it’s just all about love. All the rest is nonsense.

For me it’s a touchy subject as from high school on I haven’t had an older boyfriend once. The worst I’ve done is be with a guy five years younger. Actually that’s what I’m doing at the moment. I started off in high school with a big interest in a guy one year younger. Back then it seriously wasn’t done. All the girls wanted an older guy and I knew no one who had a younger boyfriend. But there I was, and I was not planning on changing my mind. However, he wasn’t intersted and it quickly blew over. So on to the next one.. I fell madly in love with a guy two years younger. And this time it was mutual. We had a lovely time but eventually split up, although it had nothing to do with age.

And from then on, I just kept getting them younger and younger (still legal, mind you). The best I did was a boyfriend five years younger then me. Although my birthday is at the end of the year so technically it was only 4 and a few months. Of course it’s not all sunshine when you get together with a younger guy when your still in your twenties. But it all depends on the persons. You could say that younger men are way too childish. They are not mature enough. They need their freedom. And so on and on. Thing is, my dad is in his fiftees and all these things go for him as well. A lot more then they ever fitted moest of my younger boyfriends.

So what i try to say. Age is just numbers. It’s all about personality and love. I think we’ve seen enough couples give proof of this. Demi & Ashton, Courtny and David, Gwyneth and Chris and even Hugh Jackman knows that older ladies are great. So I hope to never hear the word toyboy again. And if that’s not possible let us at least call the opposites toygirls.

Time for me to get my own one. Any candidates bewteen 18 and 19? ‘Cause I woudn’t mind at all.

Couldn’ leave this out could I?

I (heart) to vote.

I live in Belgium and today was general election day. No registering or anything of that kind as voting is obligated. On the one hand that sucks, because you have to stay at home and invest some time in it. On the other hand, our ancesters have fought for this right and if not for ourselves, we should go voting for honouring them. When my grandmother was young she wasn’t allowed to vote. It would have seriously have pissed me off being a woman back then. So who am I to complain that I hàve to go voting? The discussion has been popular for years. Should we release people from their duty of voting? I wonder how many people will still go voting. No question about what I would do though. It may only be an illusion but at least I have a little bit the feeling that my opinion counts. Even if the illusion grows smaller every time…

I’m not going to tell you what you should vote, but I do urge you to ùse your vote. The way our politicians have been behaving isn’t pretty. I’ll be the last one to deny that. The last couple of weeks however, Ive heard celebreties ask people to not vote, I’ve seen facebookgroups like ‘I am NOT going to vote’ etc… Lots of noise making but I’m quiete sure in the end 99% of them will go voting ’cause Belgians like to argue but don’t like to pay fines. For most people principles only go as far as their mouths, not as far as their wallets.

So I got up early and went voting. Still ancient times around here, no computer, just paper and a nice red pencil. Inside the voting cubicle there was this large poster which said ‘Don’t make the pencil wet!’. Why on earth would I want to make the pencil wet? Oh yes, after reading the paper I did want to make the pencil wet. It’s sush a provocation. If the paper wouldn’t be there, no one would even think about spitting on the stupid pencil. And before you think I actually did harass the pencil, I didn’t. For one I behaved. But hard it was.

Hello world!

As this is my first post, I’ll just keep it short. Also ’cause I’m just freekin’ tired and don’t want to type a lot more than 5 lines. So. This is me. Right. What do you all need to know? Not much I guess. I’m a girl. In my twenties. I’ve got an opinion about almost everything and appreciate people who have one as well. Ofcourse I appreciate it even more when they’ve got the same one as me. Ha. Anyways, few key words about what keeps me going: culture, music, books, theater, art, travelling, photography, languages and general knowledge from politics ’till sport. In the end it comes down to this: I know a bit about everything but I know everything about nothing. Ok, guess I’ve got my five lines.
